Managing Devices

PREREQUISTIES

This document assumes that the host has already completed one or more connections.

Add a device

Adding a device can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin privileges or higher.

To add a device, you need to physically connect it to the host and then you can add it in the console.

Connect a device to a host

Please refer to the Device Settings for instructions on how to connect a device to a host.

Start using device from console

PREREQUISTIES

This part proceeds with the device connected to the host.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.

  2. Click on the "Standby devices" tab.

  3. Click on the menu button(···) of the device you want to add from the list.

  4. Click on "Start using".

  5. Select the project(s) in which you want to use the device. (Multiple selections are possible)


    Public Devices

    If you want to use the device without assigning it to a specific project, select it as a Public Device. However, please note that all members will be able to use it.

  6. Once you have selected the project(s), close the modal and navigate to the "In-use devices" tab.

  7. You will see that the added device is now listed under the "In-use devices" section.

tip

When there are pending devices, a red dot will appear on the "Standby devices" tab.

Device information

Viewing device list can only be done by all members in organization.

Device status

There're two types of device status: Connection status and Usage status.

Connection status

StatusDescription
OnlineConnected to the host and also connected in the console
OfflineConnected to the host but not connected in the console / Not connected to the host
UnknownConnected to the host but not connected in the console / Not connected to the host / Other issues

Usage status

StatusDescription
IdleDevice is in an idle state and not being used in tests or routines
RunningDevice is currently being used in tests or routines. Tests are being executed on the device.
UnknownThe usage status of the device cannot be determined.

In-use devices

The device information displayed in the list of "In-use devices" is as follows.


FieldDescriptionDefault
NameThe name of the device.
For public devices, it will be tagged as Public. For host devices, it will be tagged as Host.
Device serial number or random value
Connection statusIndicates the connection status between the device and the console.
Usage statusIndicates whether the device is currently being used.
Platform & ModelThe platform, platform version, and model of the device.
The platform is represented by an icon, and to the right of it is the platform version.
The device model is displayed below.
Tags & ProjectsIndicates the number of tags assigned to the device and the number of projects the device is allocated to.

In-use device details

  1. Click on the name of the device in the "In-use devices".
FieldDescription
NameThe name of the device.
For public devices, it will be tagged as Public. For host devices, it will be tagged as Host.
Assigned projectsThe list of projects to which the device is allocated.
TagsThe list of tags associated with the device.
Connected hostThe host to which the device is physically connected.
Connection dateThe date when the device was connected to the console.
Update dateThe date when the device's information was last updated.

Stanby devices

  1. Click on the "Standby devices" tab menu.

For host devices, it will be tagged as Host.
Device's serial number or random value
Connection statusIndicates the connection status between the device and the console.
Platform & ModelThe platform, platform version, and model of the device.
The platform is represented by an icon, and the platform version is displayed next to it.
The device model name is listed below.
HostThe host to which the device is physically connected.

Host device runner

The host device runner is a runner that runs on the host device. A host device can have 1 to 16 runners.
A runner performs a single task and represents one browser in web testing.

Runners exist only on the host device.

Changing the Number of Runners

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. Click on the "In-use devices" or "Standby devices" tab menu.
  3. Click on the menu button (···) of the host device for which you want to change the number of runners.
  4. Click on the "Runner settings" menu.
  5. Change the number of runners and click the save button.

Update device's tags

Updating device's tags can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin privileges or higher.

Attach tags to a device

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use deviecs" tab, find the device to which you want to add tags and click on the menu button(···).
  3. Click on the "Edit tags" menu.
  4. Select the tags you want to add to the device.
    • If there are no existing tags to add, you can create a new tag.
    • If there are existing tags, search for the tag and click on it.
  5. Confirm that the tags have been added and close the modal.
  6. Check that the tags have been added to the device in the device list.

Detach tags from a device

Platform Tags

Platform tags cannot be removed from a device.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use devices" tab, find the device from which you want to remove tags and click on the menu button(···).
  3. Click on the "Edit tags" menu.
  4. Click on the "X" button next to the tag you want to remove.
  5. Check that the tag has been removed from the device in the device list.

Adding projects to a device

Adding projects to a device can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin privileges or higher.
Note

If a device is not used in any projects, it will be automatically deactivated.

You must either use the device in at least one project or set it as a public device.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use devices" tab, find the device to which you want to add projects and click on the menu button(···).
  3. Click on the "Edit projects" menu.
  4. Search for the project you want to add and click on the project.
  5. Check that the project has been added and close the modal.
  6. Check that the project has been added to the device in the device list.

Removing projects from a device

Removing projects from a device can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin permission or higher, or members with Admin permission or higher in project.

You can also remove the device within a project. Please refer to the Project Device Management page for more information.

Note

If a device is not used in any projects, it will be automatically deactivated.

You must either use the device in at least one project or set it as a public device.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use devices" tab, find the device from which you want to remove projects and click on the menu button(···).
  3. Click on the "Edit projects" menu.
  4. In the bottom list, find the project you want to remove and click on the "X" button.
  5. Check that the device has been removed from the project in the device list.

Update device settings

Updating device settings can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin privileges or higher.
tip

The maximum parallel job count can be modified by the host device only and should be a number between 1 and 16.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use devices" or "Standby devices" tab, find the device for which you want to change the settings, and click on the menu button (···).
  3. Click on the "Settings" menu.
  4. Change the device name or modify the maximum parallel job count, then click the "Save" button.

Stop using a device

Stop using a device can only be done by organization owner and members with Admin privileges or higher.
Warning

Please ensure that there are no ongoing tests being performed by the device before deactivating it.

When you deactivate a device, it will be disconnected from any projects it was associated with. A deactivated device can be reactivated using the "Add Device" menu. Reactivated devices will retain their previously registered tags.

  1. In the Dogu console, click on the "Device Farm" menu in the left sidebar of the organization page.
  2. In the "In-use devices" tab, find the device you want to stop using and click on the menu button(···).
  3. Click on the "Stop using" menu.
  4. Click on the confirm button and click on the "Standby devices" tab to check that the device has been deactivated.
